Stochastic
Oscillator of where the close sits in a recent range. Extremes fail often in strong trends.
Formula (conceptual view)
%K compares close to high-low range over N; %D is a smooth of %K (common 14,3).
Common parameters: 14, 3 (or platform default)
How to read
- ▸More useful as range context than as a trend-fighting reverse button.
- ▸Crosses in extremes are popular and noisy.
- ▸Do not mix “oversold = buy” with currency strength without structure.
- ▸One oscillator in the study kit is enough.
Common mistakes
- ✕ Fading every extreme in a trend day.
- ✕ Stacking stochastic + RSI + CCI as if they were independent truths.
- ✕ Ignoring session volatility.
