Averages
Trend
Smooth price to show the dominant direction. SMA weights all periods equally; EMA weights recent prices more.
RSI
Momentum
0–100 oscillator comparing recent gains to losses. Measures momentum, not an “absolute top”.
MACD
Momentum
Difference between two EMAs, with a signal line and histogram. Shows momentum and impulse shifts.
Bollinger
Volatility
Volatility envelope around a moving average. Touches are not automatic reversals.
Stoch
Momentum
Oscillator of where the close sits in a recent range. Extremes fail often in strong trends.
ATR
Volatility
Measures typical range. Useful for stops, targets and “is the market wide or quiet?”.
VWAP
Volume / flow
Volume-weighted average price. More native to equities/futures; use carefully in retail FX.
ADX
Trend
Measures trend strength (not direction by itself). High ≈ trend present; low ≈ range more likely — with failures.
OBV
Volume / flow
On-Balance Volume idea. In retail FX, volume is a fragile proxy — skepticism required.
Fib
Trend
Ratio grid between swings. Easy to curve-fit; needs clear swings and risk.
SAR
Trend
Trailing dots that flip sides. Useful as conceptual trailing study; whipsaws in ranges.
Combo
Trend
At most trend + momentum + volatility. Three roles, not ten identical lines.
